I'd say Hajime no Ippo. It began in 1989 and still continuing with 97 volumes and 963 chapters.

How the hell did a thread that should have ended on page 1 make it to 43 pages? The answer was on the first page, then like 42+ pages of people giving answers like One Piece and Naruto. They aren't even close. There is no winner based on personal preference. A question like this is answered with a fact. And that answer was given on page 1. So why is this still a conversation? lol

Well the question wasn't exactly stated perfectly - "longest manga in history" - is it longest running in a serialized magazine? longest running ever, still ongoing, that may not have been in a dedicated manga magazine? longest length of a manga by volumes published? longest manga in history because it was a snooze-fest and hard to finish?
Lots of ways to take the question.
