Yesterday I had a row with a mate over him telling me how Asian people are always naturally short, and that only Caucasians and African/Caribbean/Jamaican people can be naturally tall.

It's petty, but it still pisses me off. Time for a survey, I think. List your ethnicity and height here. List your gender if you want.

I'm half-Japanese/half-Caucasian = 6' 1" (186cm?)

What's yours?

Edit: this is about challenging stereotypes, I guess.

I don't see why it wouldn't be true, if ethnicity can control eye shape and skin color why not height....but on the other hand I really have no clue what I'm talking about.

I'm full Korean, female, and 5'4.5" (ish)/166 cm. The average American woman is only 5'4" (I believe).

ethinicity doesnt control the genes... some people get lucky and some don't... there are tall asians as well as short...

what's annoying is when people say all asians look the same when they obviously don't... those people are just ignorant...

I agree. It also pisses me off whenever people call any asian they see Chinese.

i think ethnicity is more of a mental thing... we're all humans aren't we?

and i know a guy who's part japanese but he doesnt look japanese, speak japanese (well, not fluently), or know much about its culture... would you really call him japanese? not really a straight answer for that...

and then there's people who say "i wish i was [insert ethnicity here], because then [insert steryotype here]."

people should just be happy with what they have and stop comparing themselves to other people so much

I've asked if I've been Japanese and Chinese. Half of the people who ask me my ethnicity haven't heard of Korea, despite there being a Korean war.
